UG's tin whistler to offer A beginner’s workshop at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp during summer of 2022

Have you ever wanted to play a musical instrument but thought you were too old?

Well on July 28, 2022, Larry will be presenting a one-day adult beginner’s tin whistle workshop that introduces you to an overview of Irish music from its history to developing your own style and variation. We will cover the many types of Irish tunes from jigs, slides, reels, hornpipes, polkas, and many more. By the end of the day, you’ll be able to play two sets of Irish tunes using basic ornamentation and technique.

You’ll need to purchase your own D tin whistle prior to the workshop. Whistles are relatively inexpensive, but if you need help with what to buy or need more info, please email Larry from our website contact page https://www.unevengroundceltic.com/contact or PM us on Facebook.

For a complete list of one-day workshops offered by Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and info on how to sign up visit https://bluelake.org/adult-camp/one-day-sessions/

UG's New Arrangements Share Celtic Music to Symphonic Audiences

UG's New Arrangements Share Celtic Music to Symphonic Audiences

Many of you may have wondered how Uneven Ground developed its interest in traditional Celtic music. Through teaching music, we developed a love and a knowledge of Celtic fiddle tunes. The music was fun, beautiful, and motivational.

We started the band to share this wonderful music with a larger audience. Most people have heard traditional songs and so we started with what is known and moved to explore more obscure songs and writing music in the tradition of the old songs.

Reaching out to a larger audience and showcasing Celtic music has been a goal for Uneven Ground. The past year we hired a very fine band and orchestra arranger from mid-Michigan to arrange some traditional songs for our band to perform with concert bands and orchestras. Gary T. Sullivan provided some wonderful traditional arrangements for us to perform with large ensembles.

In October of 2019 Uneven Ground premiered these works with The West Michigan Concert Winds conducted by Gail Brechting. It was exciting to perform in The Frauenthal Theater in Muskegon to a full house of music lovers!

When we are able to assemble again we are looking forward to performing with other ensembles and sharing the traditional music of the Celtic region with other symphonic audiences. Keep informed about Uneven Grounds activities or contact us through our website www.unevengroundceltic.com

Hope to see you soon!

Festival Season Ends: Recording Season Begins

Festival Season Ends: Recording Season Begins

UG's 2017 festival season ended in September with our performance at the Michigan Irish Music festival. We felt it an honor to be include with all the great international talent the festival provides. What a wonderful way to end the summer.

So now as fall sets in, the band decided to produce a Celtic Christmas CD. We spend a couple weeks searching for folk holiday tunes and Staud wrote a few new ones to put us in the holiday spirit.

We hope to get in the studio by end of October in order to release it by late November. Check back with us right here and we'll keep you posted on its progress. Stay tuned!!!

Summer Festival Concert Tour Continues

UG has been busy this summer performing around West Michigan. We were fortune enough to book 3 of the larger Irish/Celtic festivals this year.

The Kalamazoo kicked us off in June. This was the first festival we performed at so we didn't know what to expect.. We quickly learned performing is only part for we able to bond with other band members in friendship

Next, we just finished the Sparta Celtic Festival on August 12th where we performed to a huge crowd. This festival was voted as the best FREE festival in Michigan and we can see why. Make sure you mark this one down on your calendar for next year.

To close out our festival run, UG performs in September at the Mother-of-All Irish events in the state and one of the premier Irish festivals in the country-the Michigan Irish Music Festival. We're excited to play at MIMF and we know, once we get on stage, time will go by quickly.

Summer 2017 has been full of performances. With this new website, we'll keep you posted on upcoming events and news from the band.

So stay tuned. You'll hear more from us!!!
